What types of leave are available in Australian aged care homes?
Based on current regulations, there are four main types of leave available: emergency leave (as determined by the Minister), hospital leave (for receiving hospital treatment), hospital transition leave (when a hospital transition classification is in effect), and extended hospital leave (when combined hospital and transition leave exceeds 30 days).
How long can I take hospital-related leave?
You can take hospital leave for the duration of your hospital treatment. If you require a combination of hospital leave and hospital transition leave that extends beyond 30 continuous days, this becomes classified as extended hospital leave.
What is emergency leave and how is it granted?
Emergency leave is available when the Minister determines there is a situation of emergency for your aged care home or class of homes. To be considered on emergency leave, you must be absent from the affected home for the whole day during the declared emergency period.
